The Guild believes that dance is an expression essential to the development of the human potential, therefore, its purposes are to further the art of the dance by:
Working to improve the field through greater cooperation and understanding between teachers, performers and the general public; establishing a clearing house for the exchange of ideas; holding craft meetings open to professional dancers, teachers and the general public;
Building a greater audience for dance;
Encouraging the public development of dance as an independent are form at all educational levels making it available to all;
Raising the teaching and performing standards of dance; encouraging the further development of public and private nonprofit institutions for the training of dancers and dance teachers and making such training facilities available to the public; supporting high standards of teaching in informal educational programs;
Improving the artistic level of the dance as well as the general public’s understanding thereof;
Affiliating and cooperating with other nonprofit associations in improving the opportunities for the performance of dance;
Improving communications between persons in the United states and elsewhere through the medium of dance;
Disseminating periodicals and publications devoted to the dance.
