Mission & Vision
The American Dance Guild (ADG) has brought generations of dance artists together since 1956. The Guild seeks to strengthen the dance community by upholding artistic excellence, offering free and low-cost performance and educational opportunities, and nurturing exchange between teachers, dancers, and the general public. ADG will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2026.
The American Dance Guild views dance as a critical art form that honors the human experience and aims to further the art of dance to this end. ADG celebrates the dancers of the present, savors the accomplishments of the past, and looks toward the future.
ADG’s past and present initiatives include educational conferences with dance artists from around the world, an annual festival in New York City, BareBones: an informal choreography showing, prestigious awards for luminary artists, summer dance intensives, a scholarship program in collaboration with Jacob’s Pillow, DanceScope: a publication on dance, and archival video streaming.
ADG’s annual festival connects artists from around the world for a series of performances and masterclasses. Each festival pays homage to influential figures in the dance community and presents the work of distinguished and emerging choreographers.
The American Dance Guild is a grassroots, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. ADG is run by a handful of dedicated volunteers and a part-time administrator.
